📋 Introduction

The Office of the Dean, Students' Welfare (DSW), primarily looks after the welfare of students, with active support from elected student representatives, faculty, and other administrative functionaries. The multiple tasks of DSW include: facilitating the conduct of student union elections, thereby encouraging collaboration, cooperation, democracy, and tolerance among students and enabling participation in multiple progressive activities; organizing necessary support for students requiring medical aid, coordinating with the CMO; facilitating interactions between different student groups and promoting understanding and mutual respect; encouraging participation in extracurricular activities; suggesting to the Vice Chancellor matters that enable appropriate support system for students and recommending to the Vice Chancellor on the expenditure of the student aid fund, emergency medical aid, and the students' union fund; facilitating students' insurance and facilitating the smooth functioning of the provision of fellowships and scholarships to students.

🎓 Fresher's Meet and Orientation/Induction

The office of the DSW organizes orientation to newly admitted students through an Induction programme to the entire set of freshers, soon after the admissions for the academic year. In the orientation, the freshers are addressed by the Deans/Heads of different Schools/Departments/Centres, and statutory officers. Those invited include the Chief Medical Officer, Librarian, Chairperson, ICC (erstwhile GS-CASH), Chairperson, Proctorial Board, Chief Warden, Health Insurance Officials, Students' Counselors and are informed of the central facilities in the university, besides the facilities in the respective Schools/Departments/Centres. The Vice-Chancellor delivers the address on this occasion as the Chief Guest.

🏥 Medical Insurance

The office of the DSW coordinates medical insurance claim settlements for all the registered students from the day they are admitted to the day they leave the university. A group medical insurance scheme that is economical and the one that best suits to the students is negotiated with a reputed firm to offer cashless admission in corporate and reputed private hospitals, which are empanelled with the Insurance company for better medical care in case of emergencies. The students are provided with insurance coverage of Rs. 1.5 lakh for one year period, besides personal accident coverage of Rs. 5.00 lakh.

  3. After clicking on the E-card, four boxes will appear:
    • First box: Corporate name (do not change this)
    • Second box: Enter University of Hyderabad
    • Third box: Select Employee ID
    • Fourth box: Enter your Registration Number
  4. Fill in the captcha and click on Submit.
  5. A new page will open displaying your details.
  6. Below the details, click on the Submit option.
  7. Your insurance E-card will be generated and available for download.

🗳️ Students' Union

The office of the DSW facilitates student union elections in the university every year. The elections are conducted following the Constitution of the Students' Union and the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee, which was constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, as per the directions of the Honorable Supreme Court of India in the year 2006. In the academic year 2025-26, the student union elections were completed in September, 2025 and the following students were elected as office bearers of the Students' Union:
